January Reading Challenge =An Avalanche of Reading!

 This month I challenged my kids to a snowball fight with paper snowballs.  Each class is assigned a window in the library and as they read, the can answer STAAR stem questions on a paper snowball to fill the windows.  Each class now can see a strong visual of who is reading, and it has taken off like wildfire.  The kids want to be the class with the most snowballs.   So they are finding more books and taking snowballs home to do as homework even.  It may be a complete white out on my side of the library but it is filling up the windows with fun.  The kids enjoy reading and are asking great questions about some serious tested vocabulary, words like contrast, key details, main characters, antagonist and more.  I like the way they are going back to their books to find answers.  The windows are now overflowing into the doors.  It is growing. My teachers love it so much, they are asking to do one for spring, flowers, hearts, or stars for May.   I may keep going.  I always issue some kind o
